Current Drive-Thru Coffee Model
In 1998, Don and Linda Eckles, Co-Founders of Scooter’s Coffee, began an amazing journey. After watching the development of the specialty coffee industry in California, and seeing the introduction of the drive-thru coffee concept, they became convinced that there was high potential for a very successful business model. They had a vision of coupling the drive-thru coffee business with a commitment to a few key business principles. Having grown up in the Omaha area, they moved back to the Midwest and opened their first drive-thru coffeehouse in 1998 in Bellevue, Nebraska. Scooter’s Coffee was born.
The keys to success were simple but so important: find a great location and stay committed to high quality drinks, speed of service, a clean store, and a big smile. The formula worked, and more stores were opened in the Omaha metro area. Don and Linda began franchising Scooter’s Coffee in 2001.
As of today, Scooter’s Coffee is quickly approaching 200 locations in 16 states and has 135 franchise commitments to build new stores. The first store in Bellevue, Nebraska is still open and operating and has become a staple in that community. Scooter’s Coffee’s success over many years of history is very simple: Stay committed to the original business principles and company core values. The Operations team provides the hands-on business experience that helps franchisees understand how to implement a cost-effective program in their stores. They do this by monitoring cost of goods, labor costs, equipment maintenance, and hiring solid managers and personable barista team members.
Every franchisee and his or her store manager spends four weeks at training in Omaha, Nebraska going through a structured training course that includes product preparation, personnel development, and store operations. In addition, our training team spends time before, during and after the opening week in the stores with the manager and barista team. The goal is to ensure drinks are made to our standards and that the people who prepare those drinks provide the amazing experience customers will share with others.
Long before a new Scooter’s Coffee location opens, the marketing team is creating awareness about the store with banners, social media and concentrated publicity. Once it’s open, strategic and focused grand opening campaigns are implemented and are designed to create an instant customer base in the surrounding area.
The whole focus of marketing is to drive traffic to the stores. This is accomplished through on-site marketing, targeted direct mail programs, and campaigns that are designed to bring in customers and keep them coming back. Campaigns are carefully tied together so that, regardless of where a customer learns of Scooter’s Coffee, the message is the same.
Control of Franchise Products & Distribution
Early on in the franchising process, it became apparent that controlling products and distribution would be integral to the success of the entire Scooter’s Coffee franchise system. Therefore, we own the company that supplies all of our products to our franchisees called Harvest Roasting. This created control over product quality, pricing and timely/consistent delivery to the stores. Harvest Roasting has developed a reputation for its superior bean quality and roasting methods.
Franchise Support Continues Beyond Opening Week
Franchisees always have access to the Franchise Support Team for ongoing training, questions and advice. Annual and quarterly franchise meetings give franchisees and their management teams the opportunity to learn about new programs, sample products, receive training and share information.
Marketing communications are constant, training tips and videos are made available, and information is consistently shared with managers and their teams to help them grow and, just as importantly, allow franchise owners the time to focus on opening other locations.

Do You Qualify?
We’re seeking people who want to own multiple franchises. Our franchisees must believe in our brands and our concepts. We’re not looking to sell stores…we’re looking to partner with smart people who want to build a business together. Minimum net worth of $500K, with liquid assets of at least $100K, is required. Previous business ownership is not required, but some leadership background is a must.
Our potential franchisees must believe in and appreciate the franchise concept. They must understand the restrictions that owning a franchise brings, but also appreciate the freedom from having to figure out all the details of a business, both prior to opening, and going forward.

2: Inquire & Discuss

3: Franchise Disclosure Document
Once a mutual decision is made to move forward, we will send you our Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD) for your review. The FDD is a document that franchisors are required to furnish to franchisees, and includes information such as company history and ownership, financial information, startup costs, and the franchise agreement.
4: Discovery Day in Omaha
We’d like to meet you in person and will welcome you to Omaha, Nebraska where Scooter’s Coffee is headquartered. This will give us the opportunity to shake your hand, introduce you to the Franchise Support Team, and provide you with a tour of stores and our coffee roasting and distribution facility.
5: Sign Franchise Agreement
The signing of a Franchise Agreement with Scooter’s Coffee will begin our business relationship, solidify your commitment to the Scooter’s Coffee brand, and immediately open the door to all of our comprehensive franchise support systems.
You are officially part of the Scooter’s Coffee Family and we couldn’t be happier! On-Boarding is defined as the timeframe from the signing of your franchise agreement to the time your doors are open for business. On-Boarding consists of several different educational sessions being instructed by our executive staff over the course of several weeks. You just purchased a franchise…now is the time to teach you everything you need to know. Let’s get going!
7: Selection of Location
Scooter’s Coffee holds a fundamental belief that site selection is so important, and we take it seriously. We will assist you and your real estate broker with site selection and lease negotiation, and solidify a site fit that meets our established site requirements model parameters. We’ll begin this process with you immediately upon signing the Franchise Agreement.
With the support and consultation you receive from Scooter’s Coffee, we will have all of the information ready to go, all in one place, so the General Contractor you have selected can move forward with the construction process quickly and efficiently. Just one of the many benefits of choosing to franchise vs. starting your own business from scratch. Construction support begins with the permitting process and continues through site finalization and certificate of occupancy.
Scooter’s Coffee provides a comprehensive training program for franchisees, which includes a classroom orientation and training program for four weeks in Omaha, Nebraska and live training in our company-owned stores. Training in Omaha will run concurrent with store construction and development of your store opening and grand opening “blast.” Additionally, after you open for business, our training team will be with you at your store for continued training of your staff.
10: Grand Opening
Our marketing team will spend months planning for this “ribbon-cutting” event. Grand opening specific marketing materials and public relations plans have already been created to ensure success of your grand opening day. Our marketing team will use proven grand opening strategies that best fit your store’s business model, location, and trade area.
